Behind the Scenes
- Written by Gina Keene especially for HAmDramS, Behind the Scenes tells the story of a village theatre group putting on a pantomime. Drawing on the author's experience in amateur dramatics, and her familiarity with pantomime, the result is a touching comedy that makes audiences both laugh and cry.
-
- Grumpy caretaker Mr Harris resents the pantomime group messing up his village hall, making noise and distrubing his beloved Parish Council.
-
- Loud and bossy Linda tries to run everything whilst playing the pantomime lead and worrying that her husband is having an affair.
-
- Lecherous Clive ends up playing both the Genie and Widow Twankey after several actors drop out, whilst his proposed conquest, Rosie, spends much of her time doing her nails and going shopping.
-
- Simon, the director, has his hands full dealing with both the difficult cast and the even more difficult Mr Harris, plus the choreography of the sand dance.
-
- Julia and Anna have problems of their own at home: the one dealing with very young twins; the other coping with an elderly aunt with dementia.
-
- Even the two ends of the pantomime horse cannot agree on who goes in the front and who goes in the back.
-
- Despite all the dramas and crises, the show must go on!
- Quote of the Play: >
- Mr Harris: "Hello? Hello? ... Well, for Christ’s sake."
