An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
Performed by HAmDramS 19-20 April 2013. Directed by Eppie Le Roux and Robert Bush.
- The arrival of a police inspector with what seems insignificant news has huge consequences for the Birling family: a young woman has committed suicide, and every member of the family is implicated in her death.
-
- The play is more of a why-dunnit than a who-dunnit, set as an enthralling drama around family relationships. Even today it retains its relevance as an argument between the responsibility of the individual for their own actions and our collective responsibility to each other.
-
- The award winning play, set in the industrial town of Brumley in 1912, has been the subject of many differing interpretations since its first performance in 1945, and is a regular on the secondary school syllabus.
